The action was so fast that this Fresno Realtor® has no idea who was winning. But whether you know the score or not, this is a fun event for any dog-lover to watch.

You never know what you might come across when you’re hiking, but this is the first time this Fresno Realtor® has run into pack goats.

The owner of these two beautiful animals explained that Europeans have been using goats as pack animals for centuries. Some of the benefits of using goats as a pack animal are that you don’t need to bring food for them; they’ll make their dinner from whatever is available. Smart animals, they can be trained like dogs to come when called.

These goats (one a French Alpine, the other a Swiss Alpine) are dairy breeds that have been breed for packing. You can see a few more photos of these adorable pack goats here.

Trail description: For the short version, take the trail about 1 mile to the river and bridge. Longest version, just past the bridge you’ll find the almost 6 mile loop trail (go right or left it is a loop that will bring you back to this point). Beautiful foothill terrain with views of table top mountains and peeks at the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Directions to trailhead: From Highway 168, go east to Auberry, turn left just past the Elementary School onto Powerhouse Road, watch for the large San Joaquin River Gorge sign directing you to turn left, follow this road down till you find two side-by-side parking areas with picnic tables & restrooms. Trail starts from sign at second lot.
